The Delhi Legislative Assembly's Peace and Coexistence Committee has issued a summons to Ajit Mohan, vice-chairman and managing director of Facebook India, alleging that Facebook was knowingly and intentionally indifferent to curbing hate posts in the country.

The committee, led by Aam Aadmi Party leader and Rajendra Nagar Raghav Chadar MLA, has issued a notice to Mohan.  The notice calls for him to appear before the Delhi Assembly on September 15 or earlier.

A statutory statement issued in this regard stated that, respecting the eye-catching evidence presented by witnesses, the committee believes that Facebook should be involved in the Delhi riots investigation.  The process will begin at 12 noon and will be live-streamed.

The statement added that the summons was issued on the basis of evidence given by witnesses.  The committee questioned several witnesses, including journalist Pragya Jaya Guha Thakurta and Kunal Purohit, writer Nikhil Pawa and social activist Avesh Tiwari.
