Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has called Madan Sharma, a retired naval officer, who was attacked by Shiv Sena activists to understand his condition. "Such attacks on former military personnel are not acceptable at all," Mr Singh said.
"I understood his health by talking to a retired naval officer who had been attacked by miscreants in Mumbai," Rajnath wrote on social media. Such attacks on former military personnel are reprehensible and not acceptable at all. Wishing him a speedy recovery.
Four Shiv Sena activists attacked Madan in front of his house after he shared a cartoon on social media about Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. He grabbed her and beat her. He was injured in the attack. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. They were later released on bail of Rs 5,000.
Madan Sharma, 42, is being treated at a Mumbai hospital.
